(Meegan) One of the many advantages to eating healthy with lots veggies from local farms is that you know exactly what you’re eating.
Eating processed foods means you really have no idea what you’re putting into your system. We’ve read a few eye-opening things recently about food labeling and additives that has us up in arms and really wanting everyone to seriously consider carefully before purchasing or eating something that comes out of a bag.
- Our kick ass trainer Chris (aka Functional Fitness) at Absolute Wellness Group here in Halifax shared a post recently about how many words the food industry has for sugar. Its beyond ridiculous when there are more than 50 words for natural, artificial and now natural sugar substitutes.
- Reading Bruce Bradley’s series on “All Natural” food misconceptions has been a real discovery process. Did you know that your Vanilla or Raspberry Flavoring so innocently noted on a food or beverage package may actually be beaver anal glands?! Seriously, that is way too ‘natural’ for either of us.
Fact of the matter is the word “Natural” itself on food packaging is really just a marketing trick to get you to buy it. Regulations around the use of “Natural” on products are open for interpretation, and the food industry marketing machine knows how to trick us.
Bottom line: in our household we aim to avoid process food all together, there’s tricks in them there treats! #donteatthetreat
